Osa Johnson and Martin Johnson were married when they were 16 and 18 years old. They left Kansas City to live on the island of Borneo. In 25 years they traveled all over the world. They filmed the disappearing wildlife of Asia and Africa. When they returned to America, they went on a movie tour, showing their famous films. They took a plane from Denver to the coast. The plane crashed into a mountain. Martin Johnson died on the spot, and the doctors told Osa that he would never get out of bed again. But exactly three months later, Osa Johnson was in a wheelchair, giving a lecture in front of a huge crowd... When Dale Carnegie asked Osa why he tired himself out, Osa replied: "So that there is no time for grief and sorrow. If I do not lose myself in activity, I will perish in despair."...
Now sit back, close your eyes, think about your work tomorrow morning and at the same time imagine that you are sitting on the lush green grass by a lake. Concentrate. You will see that it is impossible to think of both at the same time. This is true of all emotions. When you are excited, when you are afraid, when you are angry, when you are angry, when you are curious. You cannot be curious about something and be sad at the same time.
This is a marvelous discovery. That's why psychologists in the West advise people with depression and anxiety to do something every waking minute. Fishing, sports, painting, dancing or any activity. Because when you keep the mind and body busy, you cannot get angry or upset. One overcomes the other, or you live alternately, a little bit of one and a little bit of the other.
The universe loves balance. It always fills the gaps somehow. When you are already very busy, you don't find time to get upset. When your work is over, then the mind starts playing games. It gets more and more excited. How many small details and absurdly ridiculous possibilities start dancing in your mind. It finds all sorts of ways to upset you and tear you to pieces.
As Tennyson said: "I must plunge into action without being swallowed up in sorrow and anxiety." Immediately find an activity and dive into it, leaving no space for sorrow, no space for grief...
I recently watched a movie called "The Martian". Mark, who was abandoned and stranded for months on the planet Mars, where he went with the astronauts, filled every minute of his life, even though he was alone on the whole planet, where not a single living creature lived except him. Without despairing or going mad, he worked for months, planted a garden, created a shelter, had fun, sang, filled every waking moment and never stopped living. In order not to go mad, he had to stay busy. He was so busy with the struggle for life that he had no time to worry and fret. Dale Carnegie says: "The secret of spiritual destruction lies in finding free time to think about whether we are happy or not." Don't be empty... Don't ever be empty... The universe doesn't like emptiness, it fills it somehow... Don't leave your free time empty...
Make a list of things that need to be done. Include things you have been putting off for a very long time. Things that need to be fixed, books to read, places to go, closets to clean, friends to call, sports and art activities, family members and patients you have long wanted to visit but haven't been able to, go and make them happy too. See? So much to do.
in your life! Start from the beginning, it will take you months, you don't have much time for sadness, worry, anxiety, fear...
