The professor started the lecture with a glass full of water. He held the glass so that everyone could see it and asked his students how much it weighed. 50 grams, 100 grams, 150 grams, different answers came from the students. "I really don't know unless I weigh the glass," said the professor. "But my question is, what would happen if I held this glass like this for a few minutes?"
"Nothing," the students replied. "Okay, what would happen if I held it for an hour?" the professor asked this time. "Your arm would start to ache, sir," they said. "And what would happen if I held it for a day?"
"Your arm would be really sore, you would have muscle spasms, you would have to go to the hospital," the students said and started laughing. "Very good. But would there be any change in the weight of the glass during all these problems?"
"No". "Well, then what caused the pain in my arm and the muscle spasm?" the students began to think as if they were solving a puzzle. "What should I do to get rid of the pain and the pain?"
"Put the glass down and let it fall!" said one of the students.
"Exactly," said the professor. "Life's problems are like that. You hold them in your head for a few minutes and they seem to be fine. You think about it for a long time, your head starts to ache, and if you think about it longer, it starts to consume you and you can't do anything. It is important to think about the struggles and problems in your life. But more important is to put them down at the end of each day before going to sleep, just like a glass. That way you don't get stressed and you wake up every day with a fresh brain and the strength to deal with every issue and every challenge that comes your way."
So: PUT THE GLASS DOWN TODAY!!!
This story from dear Cengiz Erşahin's book... It reminded me of a meditation I have been doing before going to bed for many years, which I learned from Krishnamurti. Today I just wanted to teach it to you. If we care about something, we watch it with great attention, sensitivity and care. If we put an end to our suffering, greed, enmity, hostility, anxiety, loneliness, competition, betrayal, all these things, life and death will take on a different meaning for us. Everything is in life and every end is a beginning. If we keep repeating the same thing, there can be nothing new. Only when there is an end, a flower can bloom. Only a human being knows that he is afraid, ambitious, hurt, sad. He is aware of his peculiar pleasures and without proof, without repression, he puts an end to them, easily, beautifully. When you do that, you will see a different beginning. Because then the real face of non-existence will be there, which is death. That is the end of all contexts... There is no other way but that...
Every night before you go to sleep, do this: Lie flat on the bed. With your hands at your sides and your feet flat on the floor, close your eyes and never open them again. Free your mind and your thoughts! Let them fly! Watch them! Don't send them, don't stop them. Now imagine a black, pitch-black void the size of the earth. Whatever is the biggest problem, whatever is the biggest pain, whatever is the biggest sadness, grab it with both hands and throw it behind that black void. Throw the others in turn in the same way. Throw everything away! People, events, things, things that upset you!!! Don't open your eyes. Now kill all your cells one by one, starting from your toes. Upwards, feet, legs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, arms, neck, face, hands, fingers... Kill... Stick to the bed... Feel the weight of the body. You will see that you have been pretending to lie down until today, but in reality you have never lain down... You will already be asleep before you can kill all your cells by pretending to be dead.... To wake up purified and clean for a new day...
