Lucy had lost her husband of 37 years a week earlier. She suddenly found herself in the supermarket where she used to go with him every Saturday. She hadn't really come here to shop. While Lucy was shopping, her beloved husband Rudy would disappear, and Lucy always knew where he went. He would come back with three yellow roses. Lucy always pretended to be surprised and was very happy, because she loved yellow roses.
Lucy was filled with love and sadness. She groped for a few things and put them in the basket. Now she had to shop alone and for herself, and the more she thought about it, the more her heart ached.
As he stood in front of the meat department looking at Rudy's favorite steaks, he saw a young woman picking up a package of steaks and putting them in her basket. Then she stopped, thought, took the steak out of the basket and put it back in. When she realized that Lucy was looking at her, she said: "My husband loves steak, but I shouldn't buy it too expensive..." Lucy's eyes suddenly filled with tears: "My husband died eight days ago; you should take it and enjoy every moment with him..."
The woman smiled at Lucy and took the steak and left. Lucy was in the fruit and vegetable aisle, thinking about how many memories she and Rudy had here, when she saw the woman she had just spoken to in the meat aisle. She was smiling into Lucy's eyes: "I bought these for you," she said. "They'll see the label there at the checkout and know they've been paid for." She reached over and kissed Lucy on the cheek and put three yellow roses in her basket...
I love this story by Cengiz Erşahin.
"Life is a series of surprises. If it were not so, it would neither be worth living nor worth preserving" says La Fontaine.
Life is about believing and moving on. To go on despite everything. Like Thales' famous saying: "There is hope even when all is lost."
Hope was the only thing left in Pandora's box, but it was there, it remained. In my opinion, one of the two greatest gifts of the Creator to human beings is forgetting and the other is hope. Life is like riding a bicycle, as long as you keep pedaling, you won't fall. As long as you don't give up...
We are not alone in the universe, we are all equidistant from each other, the universe and we are together in existence. We and everything in the universe are in unity, beauty and love are everywhere, all the time. Miracles are everywhere. We have brought nothing into the world, nor can we take anything out of it.
"We begin to die as soon as we are born, man carries death within himself as the fruit carries the seed, and without death we would not taste life," Rilke says.
