There is an Arab tribe called Beni Muhabbet. One night, two children, a girl and a boy, are born in this tribe. The girl is named Hüsn and the boy is named Aşk and they are betrothed to each other the same night by the elders of the tribe. When Aşk and Hüsn reach school age, they go to a school called Edep Mektebi and start taking lessons from a teacher named Molla-yı Cünun.
Hüsn and Aşk, who started to fall in love during this time, would meet from time to time and wander together in the garden called "Nüzhet-i geh-i ma'na", stroll along the promenade and engage in deep conversations.
The owner of the garden is an old man named Sühan, who knows everything and can take on any disguise at will. Suhan understands their troubles. But there is a mighty man named Hayret in the tribe and he prevents Husn and Love from being together and seeing each other. Forcibly separated from each other, Love and Husn exchange letters secretly through Suhan.
Aşk has a llama named Gayret and Hüsn has a nanny named İsmet.
One day Hüsn utters such an "Ah!" in pain that the nanny warns Hüsn: "My daughter, control your scream! Your modesty and honor will go to the wind and we will be disgraced!
Hüsn says: "Nanny nanny! I run like a moth to the flame, and you say there is fire on the road!"
While Nanny Ismet advises Hüsn to be patient, his lord Gayret promises to help Aşk.
Aşk then applies to the tribal chiefs and asks them for Hüsn. The tribal chieftains scoff at this request and say that if he goes to the "Land of the Heart", finds the chemistry there and brings it back, only then will they give him Husn. They also tell him how difficult and scary the path is.
Love sets off for the land of the heart with his Lala. But at the very first step they fall into a deep well containing a terrible giant.
On the way, they encounter many giants, jinns, witches and have to pass through a sea of fire. They face a thousand and one dangers and many events happen to them, and each time Suhan saves them in some way.
Finally, Lala Gayret disappears and Suhan takes Love to the Heart Castle, a place full of angels and fairies belonging to a sultan named Husn. He is welcomed with love and affection.
Suhan tells Love that he has taken a wrong path, that it was she who killed the witch, saved him from the giant and helped him in other ways. She says, "Love is Husn, Husn is Love, duality does not fit into unity, you have suffered these troubles because of your wrong thinking." Everything that happened to him is now behind him. Astonishment takes Love to Husn. Finally, the curtains of the Unseen are opened, Love overcomes all obstacles, reaches maturity and understands the truth. Hüsn ü Aşk is a rhetorical account of the spiritual journey of love.
It is a mesnavi in the style of divan literature, consisting of 2101 couplets, written by Sheikh Galib in 6 months when he was only 26 years old. It is about Beauty (Hüsn) and Love, which is the result of turning towards beauty. It has a Sufi theme and foundation. It is an allegorical work written on a claim.
The love in the story in which Divine Love is depicted is far away from today's love, which is characterized by lightness, simplicity, hollowed-out human relationships, the labor given to love without depth is lost and only pleasure remains.
Stay with HÜSN Ü LOVE...
