The ego is our companion, existing with us from the moment we are born (in our form dimension) together with our consciousness...
The self in our consciousness dimension that we carry in our being together with pure consciousness, super consciousness and subconsciousness...
Something indispensable, something we can't ignore, something that doesn't go on vacation, resign, retire. Something that we can't be enemies, that we can't be friends...
The ego always exists and recreates itself. All emotions, desires, fears, anger, jealousy, resentment, mischief, boasting, self-righteousness, complaining, all emotional states and reactions feed and strengthen it.
"When we say "I", that is the ego, a product of the mind. Because it is a product of the mind, it feels incomplete and unreliable. That's why fear and wanting are its overriding emotions and drives.
Krishnamurti defines the ego as "a voice in our head that pretends to be us and never stops" and says, "Being aware of this voice is freedom."
The ego is always looking for more, better, more, so that it can add to itself and be complete. That's why it is always busy with the future. Living in the moment is one of the ways to get out of the egoic mind.
The egoic mind feels safe by keeping us in the past or the future.
It is our ego that lives and feeds on complaining, reactivity, self-righteousness, the effort to prove others wrong, a sense of superiority, a sense of inferiority, comparing ourselves with others, selfishness.
Some people have a "victim identity". They have a strong sense of victimhood about themselves that becomes the center of their ego, resentment and complaining become the basis of their sense of self.
Competition and jealousy are a by-product of the ego. The ego's identity is based on comparison and this identity feeds more on the "thing" - it will try to grab everything.
The egoic self, structurally, needs to resist, resist and exclude in order to survive. That's why it's not him but me, not them but us, always in conflict with something or someone.
For this very reason; we cannot be friends with our ego, we cannot fight with it, we cannot ignore it, it feeds and grows in every way.
When we give all our attention to the moment, when we notice "that voice" in our head and become aware of the ego, we can be liberated.
WHEN THERE IS AWARENESS, THE EGO IS NO LONGER THE EGO, IT IS JUST A HABIT PATTERN.
If our ego is the jockey and we are the horse, it will run us every which way. If we are the jockey and our ego is the horse, we are in control, we can stay in balance.
EchartTolle says; "The ego wants to be a mountain, it wants to be huge, but if you make the ego a valley, there is depth! There is peace!"
